Biography

Alberto Vela-Martín is a Visiting Professor in Aerospace Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). His research focuses on the physics and modeling of turbulence, combining computational simulations, dynamical systems theory, and statistical mechanics to advance understanding of energy cascades, uncertainty, and predictability in complex flows.

He holds a degree and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where his doctoral work centered on computational fluid dynamics, turbulence, and dynamical systems. After completing his Ph.D. in 2019, he joined the Center for Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) in Bremen, where he investigated multiphase turbulent flows and the prediction of extreme events in turbulence.

At UC3M, Dr. Vela-Martín investigates the physics and modeling of turbulence, bridging fundamental theory and aerospace applications. He collaborates with international research groups and European projects on the simulation and modeling of complex turbulent systems, and is also active in teaching and mentorship, promoting rigorous, physics-based approaches to fluid mechanics and turbulence modeling.
