Biography
Marco Raiola received his Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics in 2017 from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), with the highest honors—Cum Laude, International Doctorate Mention, and maximum qualification—defending a thesis titled: “Empirical eigenfunctions: application in unsteady aerodynamics.” He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the Università di Napoli Federico II.
He has been Associate Professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department of UC3M since 2022, where he previously served as a postdoctoral researcher. Since 2024 he holds also a Visiting Researcher position at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, funded through a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, researching turbulent shear flows diagnostics using machine learning techniques.
He has a strong record of research collaboration with fellow researchers from foreign institutions, including KIT, TU Delft, HIT, VKI, KTH, Università di Bologna, and Università di Napoli.
As principal investigator he received competitive funding including both national and regional research grants, securing more than 150k€. Additionally, he led several research contracts with industry for a total of more than 150k€. He has been part of several competitive research projects both at European, National and Regional level. He is currently supervising 6 Ph.D. theses.
