María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence – Kick-off Event

On 21 September, the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid will hold the kick-off event of its María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The event will present the Unit’s strategic plan and research agenda, bringing together members of the Department, industry partners and the Scientific Advisory Board.

The programme will showcase research across two major areas:

Space Research and Applications
Plasma propulsion physics and air-breathing electric propulsion — M. Merino
Propulsion technologies: simulators, testing and qualification — M. Merino
New Space platforms, CSAT and robust aerospace control — A. Marcos
Space tethers and novel wind energy configurations — G. Sánchez Arriaga

Aeronautics Research and Applications
Bio-inspired solutions for micro-air-vehicles — O. Flores
UAV design and AI-assisted green aircraft design — M. Raiola
Flow physics and AI-based flow control — A. Ianiro
Sustainable aviation, climate-aware operations and weather — M. Soler

The afternoon will conclude with a round table on Challenges and opportunities in aerospace research, followed by closing remarks and a cocktail.
