2 PhD Positions Open at EP2 Lab – Advanced Plasma Propulsion Simulations
22 MayThe Plasma and Space Propulsion Team (EP2) at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is offering two fully funded PhD positions in the field of advanced plasma propulsion modeling. These positions are part of the prestigious EIC ALBATOR project.
Project Descriptions

ALBATOR-D1: Numerical simulation of ECR plasma thruster discharges, focusing on understanding the driving physics and optimizing design and operation.

ALBATOR-D2: Numerical simulation of plasma thruster plumes and their interaction with immersed bodies, with applications to space debris removal via the Ion Beam Shepherd concept.

Both roles involve:

Development of state-of-the-art Particle-in-Cell (PIC) kinetic simulation codes
-
Use of high-performance computing (HPC) platforms
-
Analysis, publication, and dissemination of research results
-
The selected candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Eduardo Ahedo and Prof. Manuel Merino, collaborating within an experienced and international research team.
Candidate Profile
We seek motivated young researchers who meet the following criteria:

MSc degree completed (with a total of 300 ECTS from BSc + MSc)

Previous design/laboratory experience is a plus
