Dr. Ceren Gurkan Receives Prestigious Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship

24 Feb

The Aerospace Engineering Department at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is proud to announce that Dr. Ceren Gurkan has been awarded a highly competitive Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship. This prestigious grant, funded by the European Commission, supports outstanding researchers in their postdoctoral phase and promotes excellence in scientific research across Europe.

The fellowship will enable Dr. Gurkan to develop a research line aimed at advancing floating offshore wind turbine technology.

The European Commission targets to multiply offshore renewable energy capacity by 30, until 2050, hence, developing Floating Offshore Wind Turbine technology becomes utterly necessary. Advancing this technology relies on either exceedingly expensive laboratory experiments or high-fidelity numerical simulations. The main objective of the WINHDG project proposed by Dr. Gurkan is to develop a high-fidelity and cost-effective numerical flow solver for the aerodynamic simulation of floating offshore wind turbines using advanced discretization techniques.

By leveraging Dr. Gurkan’s expertise, the project strives to make a meaningful impact on the renewable energy sector, contributing to a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

The Aerospace Engineering Department at UC3M extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ceren Gurkan and looks forward to witnessing the groundbreaking contributions she will bring to this critical field of research.
