Science Outreach at CEIP Calderón de la Barca: Maria Cerezo
2 MarOn Monday, February 26, an exciting scientific outreach event unfolded at CEIP Calderón de la Barca in Leganés, spearheaded by Maria Cerezo, alongside Cecilia Hernandez and Lucía Lacambra. The primary aim of this engaging initiative was to foster a deeper connection with science and engineering among children aged 8-10.
The event provided an excellent platform to showcase ongoing research endeavors, including RefMap, an investigation project. Through RefMap, young students gained insights into the intricate relationship between aviation and climate change. Additionally, a captivating workshop titled “Space: Build Your First Satellite” was conducted, offering the younger audience an introduction to the fascinating realm of space exploration.
This noteworthy activity was organized as part of the “Researchers at Schools” scientific outreach initiative by MADRIDNIGHT, a project coordinated by the Madri+d Foundation and generously supported by the European Union through the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program (grant agreement number 101.061.343). Furthermore, it aligns with the broader mission of “Una ingeniera en cada cole,” an initiative championed by the Women for Technological Innovation Network of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT-MIT).
Such initiatives not only inspire curiosity and passion for science but also empower young minds to envision exciting possibilities in the realms of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Kudos for this amazing initiative!
